"Owens Corning is committed to developing market-leading products that deliver productivity and performance benefits to our customers in the composites industry"
Owens Corning (NYSE: OC), a leading global producer of glass fiber reinforcements and engineered materials for composite systems, will launch its new PipeStrand™ range of products for high- and low-pressure filament winding applications at the upcoming JEC World 2016 composites show and conferences on March 8-10 in Paris, France.
Filament winding applications compose the largest glass reinforcement market in the world with 655,000 tons of roving sold per year1. Applications include power and energy (refineries, power plants, off-shore platforms, liquid propane gas, etc.); petrochemicals; marine; and water distribution (desalination, treatment, sewage, etc.).
“Owens Corning is committed to developing market-leading products that deliver productivity and performance benefits to our customers in the composites industry,” said Bryan Minges, Owens Corning Global Product Manager - Pipe. “Our new PipeStrand™ solutions are an exciting illustration of this strategy. They offer an enviable combination of critical mechanical performance benefits, a wide processing range, and cost efficiency, all of which combine to generate enhanced value for low- and high-pressure pipe manufacturers.”
Customer needs and preferences in terms of fiber geometry, resins, curing systems, expected performance and process requirements vary among global regions. PipeStrand™ reinforcements are compatible with multiple resins and curing systems to meet these different requirements.
Developed for the low-pressure filament winding market, PipeStrand™ S1000 single-end roving is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy and polyurethane resins.
The excellent processing, long-term mechanical and hydrostatic properties of the S1000 roving provide a major step-change over existing products and meet longer service life requirements for pipes, tanks and vessels (20-50 years)2. This single product enables lower roving inventory and faster creel changes.
PipeStrand™ M6000 multi-end roving provides optimal performance for chop and spray-up in pipes and tanks.
PipeStrand™ M6000 multi-end roving can be used for large- and small-diameter applications, and on horizontal and vertical surfaces where fast wet-out speed is preferred. It also demonstrates excellent compatibility with polyester and vinyl ester.
PipeStrand™ S2300 and S2500 single-end rovings are designed for the high-pressure and high-performance epoxy filament winding market. These products are equipped to meet pipe manufacturers’ requirements for high mechanical properties, durability, corrosion resistance, and low weight.
PipeStrand™ S2300 and S2500 rovings allow for up to a 61-percent improvement over reference products in axial tensile strength and burst stress3. They provide outstanding hydro-thermal stability under pressurized conditions for long pipe service life (over 20 years). In addition, both rovings offer a superior processing range, providing low fuzz under various tension levels, fast wetting, and smooth pipe surface. These properties can lead to reduced down time and lower resin consumption.
PipeStrand™ S2300 and S2500 are designed for both amine and anhydride-cured epoxies. S2300 delivers outstanding mechanical properties in aromatic amine-cured epoxies, while S2500 is engineered for peak performance in anhydride cured epoxies3.
Billed as the largest international gathering of composites professionals, JEC World 2016 will take place March 8-10, at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center. Owens Corning is exhibiting in Hall 5A, Booth G43.
